DEBS
I first started riding in 2015, throwing myself in the deep end and entering the Plymouth piccolo. Although I trained for the event there was no structure to it and as a result it was a hard slog. I followed up with the Ride the Night which again I trained for but with no plan. I was really keen to join my husband on local rides but as a result of these two experiences, I lacked confidence and hated hills with a vengeance.
David, my husband, started working with Simon and the remarkable change in his strength and stamina made me quite envious, but as I wasn’t planning to enter any more events I didn’t think a formalised training plan was what I needed. This lack of confidence meant that I was riding less and struggling when I did go out.
A facebook post by Simon combined with a New year, new me resolution in January 2022 and fast approaching a big birthday led me to phone Simon and have the initial 8 week plan set up. There was no huge target just to complete the local loop (about 25) miles with hubby. 5 months in I’m still training with focus and direction. The plans are easy to use and suit my lifestyle well as I can use zwift or go out on the roads. Simon, is very encouraging and has added strength training into the structure. He is readily available and makes adjustments when necessary. The sessions are by no means easy but Simon’s knowledge means that recovery, aerobic, power and cadence are all built into the training, leading to an amazing improvement in my ability. The facebook group is fun and informative with lots of interesting challenges.
My confidence has increased 10 fold. Last month I managed not only my first solo ride but also a 50 mile ride in Majorca. Strength and stamina has improved and my body shape is changing for the better. I’ve also decided to sign up for my next challenge in September, so bring on that training.
