I got in touch with Simon at the end of my second year of cycling. I felt I’d got as far as I could with training platforms like TrainerRoad with progression plateauing, and needing something a bit more individualised to me and my lifestyle.

As a 51 year old cyclist Simon’s focus on masters cyclists and the additional challenges we face really appealed to me. I’d also been impressed with his energy and performance on the bike on Strava, cycling the original Mallorca 312 route solo around the perimeter of the island, and doing the Mallorca 312, which inspired me to give it a go.

Working with Simon, I’ve learned that less is actually more when it comes to intensity, but more really is more when it comes to steady aerobic volume. Mix that with some solid strength training in the gym and you have all the pieces of the puzzle. Simon’s knowledge and experience are what enabled me to combine them in a way that works for me.

Training progression is a process that takes months and years and being able to maintain consistency of the process over the long term is how you maximise your fitness returns. Slow and steady (like the tortoise) wins the race every time.

Having Simon plan my training blocks, replan them when life gets in the way and provide constant feedback, support and encouragement has really helped take my consistency to a whole new level, which has ultimately made me fitter than ever, and faster and stronger on the bike.

The stats speak for themselves, in 8 months my FTP has increased from 270 to 310Watts, I just completed the Mallorca 312km with an average pace of 29km/hour, my longest ever ride by about 100km, and I just smashed my personal best on Sa Calobra by a massive 7 mins with a time of 37:15.

I’m looking forward to the season ahead with Ride London, and Maratona Dles Dolomites times from last year to beat. I’m excited to see what I can achieve!!!
