How to save money choosing your next bike

I got a cold email from someone asking my opinion on what bike to buy next. They sent me a list of several bikes and wanted my input.

Here’s what I suggested.

My advice to all the cyclists I train and coach when looking to buy a new bike is to get a quality bike fit before. Retul, for example, can be very cost-effective in the long run even if you don’t think so at the time.

A bike fit can help you choose the right bike that fits you perfectly. Knowing the right reach, stem height, crank length, seat height, saddle size, handlebar width and frame size that fits you will save you money.

After that, it's just down to which bike you like the most from the list your bike fitter suggests and, how much you want to spend on it.

It's simple advice but take it from me. From someone who started riding a bike that was too big. I wish I had taken this step. It would have saved me a lot of time, messing around trying to make the bike fit and I'd have had way more fun descending because a bike that doesn't fit can be sketchy as hell on its handling.
